The latest taste of 'Dopamine Chamber' has fans convinced they can hear some Korn influence The post Watch Fontaines D.C. debut menacing new song ‘Tongue’ at Brooklyn gig appeared first on NME.

Fontaines D.C. gave new song ‘Tongue’ its live debut last night in the latest taster of upcoming album ‘Dopamine Chamber‘ – check out footage below.

The band were playing Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre on Monday (September 21), and surprised fans by giving the new song its first airing. Back in 2024, the Irish-punks told us about their love of Korn, and since footage of the new song has circulated on social media, some fans have said they can hear the nu-metal band’s influence on it.

Users on Reddit have been trading their verdicts from the footage, with one calling the  groove of the track “menacing” and “heavy af”. It comes after the band recently shared the full tracklist for their upcoming fifth album, ‘Dopamine Chamber’.

As well as lead single ‘Marianne‘ along with two new fan favourites recently debuted live in the form of ‘Six Shot Morning‘ and ‘Happy For You‘, the full album’s song list – which you can check out here – also has a surprise in a duet with Spanish pop pioneer Rosalía on ‘Where Is Gone?’, marking their first-ever guest vocalist on a track.

The follow-up to 2024’s acclaimed and Mercury-nominated ‘Romance’ follows the band’s recent contributions to the Peaky Blinders: Immortal Man soundtrack and the War Child ‘Help(2)’ album. ‘Dopamine Chamber’ moves deeper into “darker and more synthetic sounds”, and searches for pleasure amid peril “in a world tipping towards collapse” from threats in digital and artificial worlds, as the band shared in an official statement.

“The album itself is a dopamine chamber,” said Chatten. “You step inside and we test these different mind or mood-altering pieces of music on you.”

The frontman, who visited Venice, Vienna and Sicily in search of lyrical inspiration, continued: “I think ‘Romance’ was maybe 60 per cent human and 40 per cent corrupted by automation, and a loss of feeling. This one feels more like 60 per cent corrupted – the mask is wearing the face a little more. I felt it would be more powerful to leave the hope out and reflect the ugliness honestly. This one needed to feel more like a catastrophic warning.”

Leaning into the themes of the record, bassist Conor ‘Deego’ Deegan shared: “Our albums have always questioned a sense of place. First Dublin, then being away from Dublin, and then trying to find the romance elsewhere. On this record, the question became: where do you escape to?”

‘Dopamine Chamber’ will arrive on October 16, ahead of a UK and European arena tour before a run of stadium and outdoor dates in 2027 with Little Simz and Viagra Boys.

This follows a huge summer for the Dublin band, who stepped up to headline both Reading & Leeds and Electric Picnic.

NME awarded Fontaines D.C.’s Reading headline performance four-and-a-half stars, hailing it as “a deserved coronation from the band of our time”.
