Gurriers’ exclusive playlist for The Cover is pure cinema

By NME•NME Music News

The Irish band’s ‘Favourite Film Songs’ playlist includes needle-drops from ‘Eraserhead’, ‘Batman Forever’, ‘Lost In Translation’ and more The post Gurriers’ exclusive playlist for The Cover is pure cinema appeared first on NME.

Gurriers are on The Cover this week – read the story and stream their exclusive playlist ‘Favourite Film Songs’ below.

The Irish punk band land on The Cover, NME’s weekly spotlight on the best and brightest emerging artists, ahead of their new album ‘Nobody’s Coming To Save You’. Gurriers were profiled by NME news editor Andrew Trendell and photographed by Joseph Bishop in Manchester exclusively for NME – check it out here.

Gurriers leaned into their love of movies for their exclusive playlist for NME, curating their top needle-drops from the likes of Eraserhead, Batman Forever, Lost In Translation and A Fistful Of Dollars. ‘Favourite Film Songs’ features tracks by Elliott Smith, Dead Kennedys, Wolf Alice, U2, Sufjan Stevens and more – stream it on Apple Music here and on Spotify below:

In their Cover story, the Dublin-formed band expounded on the meaning of their band name. “The word ‘gurriers’ is rooted in a lot of negativity. It would be synonymous with a thug or a hoodlum,” explained guitarist Mark MacCormack. “We’re more the idea of community. The stage presentation is bombastic, let loose and a bit wild. We’re always trying to encourage you to be yourself, truly and fully, have a good time and be accepted.”

Bassist Charlie McCarthy described Gurriers as “an extension of our anger”, which is palpable in their upcoming second album, ‘Nobody’s Coming To Save You’. “Dreams, decay and desire” are at the core of the album, said frontman Dan Hoff. “People can rise up against the system if they believe they can,” he said of the righteous political rage they channelled into the record. “We need to help each other to do that. It’s us vs them.”
